Botox, or botulinum toxin, is used as a treatment for chronic migraines. It works by blocking the release of certain neurotransmitters involved in pain transmission. When injected into specific muscle areas in the head and neck, it can help reduce the frequency and severity of migraine attacks.
Patients typically receive injections every 12 weeks, and it can take a few weeks to notice improvements. It’s often considered when other preventive treatments haven’t been effective. While it’s not a cure, many people find significant relief from their migraine symptoms with Botox.
